The Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death are a series of 19 intricately designed dollhouse style dioramas created by Frances Glessner Lee in the 1940s. She donated the first of her Nutshell Studies in 1946 for use in lectures about Crime Scene Investigation. On permanent loan to the Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, they are still used to this day in forensic seminars.

The dioramas are detailed representations of death scenes that are composites of actual court cases, crafted by Glessner Lee on a 1:12 scale.

In the first episode, viewers will discover how to interact with the miniatures, serving as the central mechanics of the experience. The main interface will

be the miniature of a massive Chicago mansion dollhouse, inspired by the Glessner family home.

For each episode a specific room will unfold, like an intricate dollhouse, creating a miniature set for a dedicated story. To create tension

between interaction and story, some objects will have a Russian doll structure hiding dark secrets and mysteries.
