For the cities of Laufen and Oberndorf bei Salzburg, K5 Factory developed a location-based augmented reality experience that brings the shared history of both cities into public space. Across six AR stations, visitors can explore key moments, places, and stories that shaped the cultural and historical connection between Laufen and Oberndorf — extending far beyond the origin of Silent Night.
Each AR station adds a digital narrative layer to real locations, combining historical context, visual reconstructions, and storytelling elements directly on site. The experience invites visitors to discover how the two cities evolved over time, creating a deeper understanding of their shared heritage across borders.
Augmented reality is particularly well suited for projects like this: it makes it possible to visualize places, buildings, and moments that no longer exist today — allowing history to be experienced where it actually happened.
